The bottom line

The big factor to consider when judging the PV1 is the price. This is only an $80 device, so you can’t expect it to perform as well as the more expensive and best dry herb vapes on the market. But for under $100, it’s better than its similarly priced competition and punches way above its weight.

Experienced users might like the PV1 as a secondary or backup device, but may be disappointed by its performance and features compared to more expensive and highly regarded dry herb vapes.

Beginners or those completely new to dry herb vapes will appreciate the simplicity, straightforward operation, and above-average performance of the eighty-dollar Eyce PV1. These are the users that the PV1 will serve best, so if that’s you, I highly recommend trying the PV1.

Product Overview

Eyce is a brand best known for its smoking accessories, including pipes and rigs, most of which are made with their signature silicone rubber.

Recently, Eyce released their first dry herb vaporizer, the PV1. While it’s not made of silicone rubber, it has some parts that are, such as the silicone oven lid and the branding on the aluminum alloy case.

The PV1 is designed to be easy to use for beginners but incorporates features to make it attractive to experienced users, such as a stainless steel airflow path, an ergonomic rotating mouthpiece, and four temperature settings that gradually increase the temperature over a five-minute session.

In this review, I do a deep dive into the Eyce PV1. I’ll cover the design, portability, features, vapor quality, battery life, and more, so you can decide if this is the right device for you.

Design & Build Quality

  • Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 1

The PV1 is nothing like Eyce’s other products. While the rest of their offerings are made nearly entirely out of silicone rubber, the PV1 is made almost entirely of aluminum alloy. There are a few silicone rubber features, like the branding on the device and the oven lid, but it’s otherwise all metal.

The PV1 looks clean and covert, with a minimalist design that looks great. There are no fancy bells and whistles and no full-color display, just a single button surrounded by an LED indicator.

This button lets you fully and easily control the PV1, and the LED indicator provides all the information you need about your temperature output and battery life. While the information provided by the LED isn’t as exact as a percentage display, it does the job just fine.

Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 6

The PV1 is tall at 114mm, but slim and slender at just 37mm wide and 23mm deep. It’s not possible to fully conceal it in my hand, so true stealth use is out of the question, but it’s comfortable to hold and not bulky in the least.

The mouthpiece on the PV1 is removable and rotates 360 degrees, allowing it to be set to any position you want. It clicks into place when rotated 180° and offers some resistance against being moved, so this is probably where you’ll want to set the mouthpiece for using the PV1. It also clicks into place when closed and offers a similar bit of resistance here as well.

Oven & Vapor Path

Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 7

The PV1 has an oven made of glass-lined silicone that holds around 0.3g of dry herb. The area around the oven slopes downwards, functioning as a sort of funnel for when you’re loading your herbs.

The oven is accessed from the bottom of the device by removing the silicone rubber oven lid. The lid pressure fits closed, and it’s held to the device by a thin but sturdy strap, so it won’t get lost.

The inside of the lid has a piece that fits into the oven and pushes down the material for better contact.

From the oven, vapor travels up and through the device via a stainless steel airflow path, then out through the mouthpiece. It’s a clean pathway that is free from plastic and isolated from the device’s internals, which is what I like to see.

Features

Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 12

The Eyce PV1 has four “AutoFlow” temperature settings, which work similarly to the “Smart Paths” on the DaVinci IQ3.

Each of these AutoFlow temperature settings starts at a different temperature and then gradually increases it over the course of a five-minute session.

These temperatures are indicated by the color of the LED surrounding the button:

  • Blue (Low): 350-370°F
  • Green: 370-390°F
  • Yellow: 390-410°F
  • Red (High): 410-430°F

Although there is no specific temperature control on the PV1, I’ve found the AutoFlow temperature settings to work well for extracting compounds from my herbs. I like that I don’t have to keep adjusting the temperature throughout a session – I can just set it and let the device do the rest of the work.

The conduction heating (which works by heating the herb through direct contact with the walls of the oven) does a good job, so long as the oven is tightly packed.

How to use the Eyce PV1

  • Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 8

The Eyce PV1 is very straightforward to set up and use, which makes it an ideal choice for those new to using dry herb vapes. There are only a few steps to follow, and then you’re all set.

  • Start by removing the silicone lid from the bottom of the device. This will reveal the glass-lined ceramic oven.
  • Coarsely grind your herb. You don’t want it to be dust, but you don’t want it to be full on buds either.
  • Pack about a third of a gram into the oven. For the best effects from the conduction heating, you’ll want to pack the oven tightly.
  • Close the silicone lid and then press the power/mode button five times to turn the device on.
  • The LED will start breathing, with the color indicating which AutoFlow temperature mode the device is in. My recommendation is to start on blue (low) and work your way through the AutoFlow settings with each new session, but it’s up to you.
  • The PV1 takes 30-60 seconds to heat up. Once it reaches the set temperature, the LED will turn solid.
  • Rotate the mouthpiece 180° and inhale to vape.

Battery life & Charging

There is no battery capacity listed for the Eyce PV1 on the official website, but I’ve seen online stores listing it as a 3000mAh cell. Whether this is correct or not, I don’t know for sure, but I think this might be too large given the battery life that I experienced.

During my testing, each charge lasted for 7-8 five-minute sessions, or 35-40 minutes of use. From this, I would say that the PV1 probably has a 2500mAh battery, but who knows? In any case, that’s okay battery life; not great, but not bad either. However, for $79.99 USD, it’s better than I expected.

Charging takes much longer than I hoped, coming in at two hours and forty-five minutes per charge.

Performance & Vapor Quality

Eyce PV1 Vaporizer - 11

The PV1 doesn’t produce the highest quality vapor, nor is it the most customizable to your specific temperature preferences, but it still gets the job done.

For a sub-hundred-dollar vaporizer, the PV1 delivers good vapor and a lot of it too, especially on the two highest AutoFlow temperature settings.

There’s no Cool Core like the DaVinci IQ3, nor an extended vapor path, so the vapor is fairly warm. But I didn’t find it too hot, and it still delivers a rather smooth and decently flavorful draw.

Stirring between sessions is recommended with the PV1; it helps the conduction oven to heat up the herbs more evenly and deliver more vapor.

The body of the device gets very hot during a session. Not hot enough to burn you, but still uncomfortably hot.

Verdict
