The bottom line

The Wenax Q2 is a great, simple pod vape that strikes a nice balance between ease of use and functionality. The unique combination of leather, metal, and shimmering plastic makes for an excellent look, although the front panel could be more scratch-resistant.

On the performance side, the draw activation works flawlessly, the airflow slider provides a good range of adjustment depending on the pod that you use, and the pods work great for both MTL and RDL vaping, with good flavor too. Battery life is excellent, easily lasting through 1–2 days of use, and the fast 40-minute recharge keeps downtime to a minimum.

As for the few downsides, the lack of a battery percentage indicator is a small drawback, as are the tinted pods which make it difficult to check on the e-juice level inside the pod.

Overall, though, the pros outweigh the cons. Aside from a few small nitpicks, the Wenax Q2 is a standout choice for vapers who want adjustability without sacrificing simplicity. Recommended.

Product Overview

Geekvape is a vaping brand with many device series.  There’s the Sonder series of simple pod vapes, the Legend series of box mods, and the Z series of subohm tanks, and that’s just to name a few. There’s a Geekvape devices for everyone, no matter what you’re looking for, and if you’re a pod vape user who likes some adjustability in your devices, the Wenax Q series might be for you.

The Wenax Q line of devices includes the original Wenax Q, the Wenax Q Mini, and the Wenax Q Pro. The latest addition to the lineup is the Wenax Q2. It follows a similar philosophy as previous Wenax devices in that it’s made easy to use but still offers adjustable features like airflow and wattage.

I’ve tested or tried most Geekvape products released in the last few years, and their Wenax series has been consistently excellent. Is it the same story with the Wenax Q2? I gave it a solid two weeks of testing to find out.

Design & Build Quality

  • Geekvape Wenax Q, Wenax Q2, and Wenax Q Pro
Wenax Q (left), Wenax Q2 (center), Wenax Q Pro (right).

The Wenax Q2 is a really cool and unique-looking device. The case is made of three different materials: polished metal, matte leather, and plastic. Leather wraps the bottom half of the device, adding a nice grip, while the polished metal wraps the upper back half.

For the front screen portion of the device, a unique design film creates a shimmering finish that changes with the light. It’s a different design than most pod vapes, and I can tell it’s well-made by how seamlessly the three materials come together.

But while it looks good, scratch resistance is mixed. The metal and leather have held up very well, showing little to no signs of wear. However, the plastic front has many noticeable light scratches, scuffs, and even one or two heavier and more visible scratches. I haven’t been particularly rough on the device either, only putting it on my desk, in my pockets, and in my car’s cupholder.

Sticking with the Wenax series philosophy of “simple but adjustable”, the Wenax Q2 has a nice full-color display with a simple UI, a single button for control, and an adjustable airflow slider.

  • Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 10

The button is firm and responsive, and is used to change the theme and wattage. It is not, however, used for firing; the Wenax Q2 is draw-activated only. The airflow adjustment slider is similarly firm, but slides smoothly and easily when intentionally moved. It also stays where it is set, even after being in and out of pockets.

Speaking of pockets, the size and weight are perfect. It’s moderately tall but slim enough that I had no trouble putting it away on my person when needed. It’s also only 79g, which is just enough weight to feel it but not enough to feel like it’s weighing me down.

The bottom of the Wenax Q2 has a Type-C charging port, but I’ll get into the battery life and charging in a later section.

Pods

Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 13

The Wenax Q2 uses the same new Q Cartridges as the Sonder Q2, which came out late last year. These are side-filled pods that can be filled without removing them from the device, which is pretty convenient. They also hold up to 3ml of ejuice, which is an improvement over the 2ml capacity of the original Q cartridges.

As of the time of writing this review, there are four Q cartridges available:

  • 0.4Ω (25-30W, Red)
  • 0.6Ω (18-25W, Orange) – Included with the Wenax Q2
  • 0.8Ω (12-18W, Yellow) – Included with the Wenax Q2
  • 1.2Ω (8-12W, Green)

Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 14

Each of these cartridges featured a differently colored rubber stopper inside the bottom of the pod, which is visible from the outside. This should make it easier to tell the pods apart at a glance.

Since these are the same pods as the Sonder Q2, I have the same complaint that I did in that review: the pods are tinted, which makes it difficult to see how much e-juice is inside. Unless you hold the pods up to a light source, good luck knowing if you need to refill or not.

Aside from these minor complaints, the pods are great overall. You can see the entire pod contents without removing the pod (provided you have light), so that’s a plus at least!

Features

  • Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 15

The Wenax Q2 can fire at up to 30W, and features adjustable wattage that can be activated by pressing the button three times. From here, you just click or hold the button to scroll through the wattage. When you’re at the wattage you want, wait a few seconds, and the device will automatically lock that in.

There are also four different themes, which can be selected by pressing the button twice. There’s a grey theme, a blue theme, a pink theme, and a butterfly theme. Personally, I like the grey and blue themes the most, but this will obviously come down to personal preference.

However, one thing that isn’t personal preference is the lack of a numerical battery percentage on any of the four themes. Objectively, this would have been good to have on at least one of the themes, if not all four. The best that you get on the Wenax Q2 is that three of the four themes have five bars to indicate battery, with each representing twenty percent, which is not the worst way to display battery life, but still.

As I mentioned earlier, there’s no button-activated firing despite the Wenax Q2 having a button. This button is only there to turn the device on or off, adjust the wattage, and change the theme. To vape, just draw on the mouthpiece. On the bright side, the draw activation works really well, even with the airflow wide open with the 0.6Ω pod, and I didn’t have any instances of it faltering or acting up.

Battery life & Charging

Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 7

Like the Sonder Q2, the Wenax Q2 has a 1350mAh battery. This is a 350mAh increase over the Wenax Q, and a 50mAh increase over the Wenax Q Ultra, the next most recent Q series device.

As a result, battery life is much better than that of these devices and even good overall compared to the pod vape market. I’ve been vaping around two pods per charge with the Wenax Q2, or about 1-2 days of use. Most vapers should expect similar results, if not a day or two longer, if they don’t vape all throughout the day.

The 2A Type-C charging port gets the Wenax Q2 charged up in no time. Charging up to 80% takes only half an hour, and a full charge takes only ten minutes longer. A forty-minute charging time is excellent for a 1350mAh battery, which meant I had little to no downtime while testing this device.

Performance

Geekvape Wenax Q2 - 9

The Wenax Q2 can be used for MTL and RDL vaping right out of the box. The 0.8Ω pod is the one to use for MTL, while the 0.6Ω pod is more versatile and can be used for MTL and RDL vaping.

With the 0.8Ω pod, it has a wattage range of 12-18W. I liked it on the higher end of this range, at 16-18W, and I kept the airflow nearly closed for a nice, verging on tight, MTL draw. With a 20mg/ml nicotine salt e-juice, I get all-around good flavor, warm vapor, and a decent throat hit to boot. Opening up the airflow with pod results in a looser MTL draw, so that’s an option too if that’s your preferred airflow.

The 0.6Ω pod is more versatile in that it can be used for a loose MTL with the airflow closed up, or a straight RDL draw with it open. Using a 20mg/ml nicotine salt e-juice with this pod was fine for me, but verging on a little too much, especially if used at the higher end of the 18-25W wattage range. For nic salts, 18W was where I kept it, but for a 6mg freebase ejuice, 23-25W was right for me.

Both pods have held steady through multiple refills. I’ve gone through 18ml of ejuice with the 0.6Ω pod and close to 25ml with the 0.8Ω pod, and neither has suffered any sort of performance drop. Flavor is still good, and wicking is still keeping up. No leaking either, which is always a good thing!

Verdict

The Wenax Q2 is a great, simple pod vape that strikes a nice balance between ease of use and functionality. The unique combination of leather, metal, and shimmering plastic makes for an excellent look, although the front panel could be more scratch-resistant.

On the performance side, the draw activation works flawlessly, the airflow slider provides a good range of adjustment depending on the pod that you use, and the pods work great for both MTL and RDL vaping, with good flavor too. As for the few downsides, the lack of a battery percentage indicator is a small drawback, as are the tinted pods, which make it difficult to check on the e-juice level inside the pod.

Overall, though, the pros outweigh the cons. Aside from a few small nitpicks, the Wenax Q2 is a standout choice for vapers who want adjustability without sacrificing simplicity. Recommended.
