The bottom line

The Lookah Snail 2.0 meets almost all my criteria for a great 510 battery. It is portable, easy to use, and has user-friendly features. The preheat mode, voltage settings, and button activation all function smoothly and work as they should.

The placement of the button and LED lights is well thought out, providing a comfortable experience during use. The cartridge is also fully visible, allowing you to easily monitor your material.

The only downside to the Snail 2.0 is the lack of a battery level indicator. While I appreciate that there are three warning notifications in the form of ten white flashing lights when the device is dying, there is no way to check the battery level beforehand.

Aside from this one drawback, the Snail 2.0 performs exceptionally well. It delivers the effects I expect from my cartridges, all without any issues. If you are looking for a reliable 510 battery priced in the $20 USD range, the Lookah Snail 2.0 is an excellent choice.

Lookah is a brand with over a decade of experience in the cannabis accessory industry. Just like the vaping world, the cannabis market is constantly evolving, and Lookah has successfully adapted to these changes. They offer a wide range of cannabis vaping gear, including 510 batteries, and I got my hands on some to test out and let you know what I think.

Right away, their devices stand out from the average 510 battery. Each product is designed with vibrant colors and unique inspirations. For instance, some of their more intriguing devices include the Guitar 510 battery and the Egg 510 battery, which look exactly like you might guess: a guitar and an egg.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at the Lookah Snail 2.0, which is not only a fun-looking device but also incredibly user-friendly. Simply screw on your cartridge, turn on the device, preheat it, and you’re ready to take a draw. Even those who are inexperienced with 510 batteries will find it easy to operate, and its compact design makes it perfect for carrying around as a backup to your larger rigs

The Snail 2.0 has three voltage settings and can be preheated in only 10 seconds. It houses a 350mAh battery that charges via USB.

It should go without saying that this device isn’t meant to compete with or replace your existing concentrate rig; it’s a 510 battery, after all. But if you need an easy-to-use device for cartridges that you can take everywhere, the Snail 2.0 may be just what you’re looking for. Read the full review to determine if it is right for you.

Design & Build Quality

  • Lookah Snail 2.0 - 1

The Snail 2.0 has a playful design, but the reason for the name might not be instantly obvious. At first glance, it may take a moment to understand why it’s called the “snail”, but once you see it, it’s hard to unsee. I especially like how the cartridge enhances the design by adding the ‘head’ of the snail when it’s installed.

The Lookah Snail 2.0 is remarkably small and compact, measuring only 44.5 mm in height, 41.5 mm in width, and 20 mm in depth. Among 510 batteries, it stands out as one of the tiniest available. Its size makes it ideal for carrying with you at all times; without a cartridge installed, it can easily fit into even the smallest pockets.

The device can be completely concealed, allowing you to press the activation button with your finger. However, I found it most comfortable to hold it with my thumb and middle finger—using my thumb to press the button with my middle finger resting on the dummy button located on the back. This secondary dummy button helps to provide a comfortable grip on the device.

The Snail 2.0 weighs 52g, and while I wouldn’t classify it as the lightest device given its small size, it feels sturdy and well-made. The zinc-alloy body gives it a high-quality appearance and feel.

The body’s shimmery paint has held up well during testing, showing no signs of wear or tear. It also hasn’t picked up any scratches, and I have been tossing this thing around for weeks.

On the top of the device, there is an LED that lights up in one of three colors. Each color represents a different voltage setting. It will also light up to let you know when your device is in preheat mode, when it needs to be charged, and while charging.

  • Lookah Snail 2.0 - 12

The front of the device is circular and has the Lookah logo near the top and a Snail logo near the bottom. Both are printed in white. Just off center in the middle of the device is a button that can be used to turn on and off the device, activate preheat mode, change the voltage output, and activate the device to draw.

The back of the device looks almost identical to the front, sans logos. But instead of a usable button, it is just a plastic circle that looks like a button.

On both the front and back of the Snail 2.0, there’s a textured pattern of lines that surrounds the button and dummy button, giving the device some much-needed grip, as the rest of the device is very sleek.

On the side of the device is where you screw in the cartridge. All standard 510 cartridges will fit in the Snail 2.0. Oversized, wider cartridges will not.

Finally, the USB charging port is on the bottom of the device, but I was extremely disappointed to see that the Snail 2.0 has outdated micro USB charging. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this, but Type C charging would have been better. It’s the new standard and it’s faster. Plus, who wants to go looking for a micro USB charging cable?

Another frustrating thing about charging is that the device has an identical cutout right next to the charging port. When charging in unlit areas, it can be impossible to tell which is which. I like the device’s symmetry, but this was just plain mean.

Overall, the Snail 2.0 is solid, well-made, and shaped like a snail. That’s all great, but what features does it come with, and how does it perform when put to the test?

Getting Started

Lookah Snail 2.0 - 9

The Snail 2.0 is one of the easiest devices to set up, and you can go from unboxing to vaping in less than two minutes. It only takes a few simple steps to get started.

First, screw your standard-size 510 cartridge into the side of the Snail. Once it’s installed, you’ll want to ensure that the cartridge is securely in place and that there is no wiggling.

Next, turn the device on by pressing the button on the front of the Snail 2.0 five times quickly.

From here, press the button two times quickly to change the voltage, and then three times quickly to begin preheating.

Finally, press and hold the button and inhale on the mouthpiece of your cartridge.

This may be the shortest “getting started” section ever, but that’s all it takes to be ready to vape with the Snail 2.0!

Features & Functions

Lookah Snail 2.0 - 16

The Lookah Snail 2.0 may be small and compact, but it is packed with all the features that I look for in a 510 battery. One notable feature is the adjustable voltage settings. To change the voltage on the Snail 2.0, simply press the button twice. The LED will light up in one of three colors:

  • Blue: 3.2V
  • Purple: 3.6V
  • White: 4.2V

The Lookah Snail 2.0 features a preheat mode that can be activated by pressing the button three times. When you enter preheat mode, the light will illuminate and alternate between green and blue. After the 10-second preheat is finished, the light will turn off.

Unlike some devices that are draw-activated, the Snail 2.0 is button-activated only and requires the button to be pressed and held while you inhale.

The placement of the light on the Snail 2.0 is perfect and easy to see while using the device, so you always know exactly what voltage setting you’re vaping at.

The Snail 2.0 includes several built-in safety features, including overtime running protection, short-circuit protection, over-wattage protection, and overcharging protection.

Battery & Charging

Lookah Snail 2.0 - 11

The Snail 2.0 is equipped with a 350mAh battery, which may seem small, but it lasts a surprisingly long time.

I’ve been using the Snail as a backup vape for a few weeks. In that time, I’ve consumed just over half of my 1g cartridge and the Snail 2.0 has shown no signs that it needs to be recharged.

There are no regular battery indicators to display the remaining charge; the LED only displays the voltage level until the battery is low. At this point, the LED will flash a white light ten times to alert you that it needs recharging.

One downside to the Snail 2.0 is that it uses micro USB charging and only charges at 0.5A. While charging, the device will show a red light, which will change to green once fully charged.

How does it vape?

Lookah Snail 2.0 - 15

I have primarily been using a Delta-8 cartridge while testing the Snail 2.0, but I’ve also tried a few other concentrates to see how they perform with the preheat setting. Even with the thickest material I used, such as the grape ape live resin that I really enjoy, I didn’t encounter any issues getting it warmed up enough for a good draw.

With the D8 cartridge, the material is thick enough to make using the preheat mode beneficial; it allows the material to warm up sufficiently to provide an excellent draw from the get-go every time.

It’s important to note that you can’t simply take a draw on the device; even after using the preheat function, you have to press and hold the button for each draw. This wasn’t a big deal for me though, and the button responds near-instantly.

Each voltage setting delivers a different effect from your concentrates. On the blue setting, which is the lowest, you can expect a light draw with flavorful vapor. The mid-range setting, purple, produces a great balance of flavor and clouds. The highest setting, white, offers harsher vapor with decent flavor but lots of vapor.

For me, the purple setting was perfect, providing an excellent combination of flavor and cloud density. After a few draws, I usually lowered the setting to blue to relax.

Verdict
